Description
An exceptional, large 19th-century French provincial hand-hammered brass milk jug (canne à lait), originating from the Normandy region.
Superb piece featuring classic early-to-mid 1800s construction signatures: a heavy-gauge bulbous form shaped out of two sections with a prominent hand-soldered mid-belly seam, a thick-cast integrated side handle, and an inset wide-collar lid. The neck is framed by traditional decorative pie-crust/scalloped tooling.
Presents with an honest, uncleaned antique patina and true farmhouse character, showing historic dents and dimples from over a century of genuine agricultural use. The interior retains its historical protective lining. A bold, highly sculptural statement piece ideal as a floor vase, umbrella stand, or rustic hearth element.
