Description
Recommended: Suitable for intermediate stitchers.

A wonderful bright wallet owned by Caspar Yeakel, 1774, Schwenkfelder, Hereford Township or vicinity, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Caspar Yeakel (1748-1804) was the lucky recipient of this vibrant Irish stitch wallet the year before his marriage to Anna Yeakle. The use of this stitch to decorate a wallet or other small personal item, more traditionally associated with those of Anglo descent, is something of an enigma among the rural Schwenkfelders.

Reproduced from the collection of the Schwenkfelder Library, accession no.202.10.01. Initials stitched are CAS, PER,IAE and CK EL and dated 1744.

Worked mainly in Irish or flame stitch and some rice and cross stitch. Lined with a hand dyed linen fabric and bound with wool twill tape. It is stitched with Appleton wool on a linen ground.

It is 7.5" wide and in total length it's 19 .5".

Size: 3" x 4.25 (7.5cm x 11cm) when completely open
Thread Count: 30 count (14 th/cm)linen
This is a complete kit including silk threads, silk lining fabric, wool felt, silk ribbon and linen.
