The role of an MR plate is used to reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). They are most popular in high-compression applications such as diesel engines, or performance vehicles. High compression engines generate a high level of noise (rattles), vibration (often felt through the gearstick) and harshness (general cabin noise etc) at idle. This is particularly noticeable in engines with uneven timing in the cylinder firing sequence.
An MR Plate is designed to reduce the transfer of NVH through the driveline, particularly when the engine is at idle.
