SRAM Roam 50 Wheelset
Sharing many of the high-tech features found in the carbon Roam 60 wheels, the Roam 50's pack it all in at nearly half the price. The difference? An alloy 6061-T6 heat treated rim that comes in at a very similar weight to carbon, but at a much more attainable pricepoint. Nice work SRAM!

SRAM Roam 50 Wheels
Coming in at nearly half the price of the carbon Roam 60 wheels, the Roam 50's are packed with value. They're built on the same hubs and with the same Sapim spokes as the carbon wheels, but instead use a heat-treated 6061-T6 Alloy for the rims to help keep the cost down. SRAM have built in a genuine UST tubeless profile, so that tubeless tyres lock in securely when setup without tubes, and the alloy rim extrusion features their patented 'Taper Core' profile that alters the thickness of the alloy walls throughout the rim to maximise strength where it's required. It's kinda like how a carbon rim can be made thicker in certain areas by applying more layers of carbon cloth - except it's alloy. While the Roam series of mountain bike wheels from SRAM weren't the first wheels they released (the XC Rise wheels came before), they have very quickly evolved to become the most popular set of hoops that the brand offers. This is predominantly because they strike a really nice balance between weight, strength and rim width that appeals to a broader range of riders. The Roam series sits between the XC-focussed Rise wheels, and the heavy duty Rail series, and as such they're ideal for mountain bikers who are looking for a no-nonsense product that performs day-in, day-out for hard trail riding. Part of the reason they're such a good wheelset for most riders is because of their smooth adjustable sealed bearing hubs, the brilliant Solo Spoke design (same length spoke front & rear, drive and non-drive), and the interchangeable end caps to allow the Roams to be fitted to a wide variety of frames and forks. Throw in a super fast engaging freehub mechanism and a genuine UST tubeless profile, and you can see why we rate the Roam 50 wheels as some of the most well thought-out high end wheels on the market.

From SRAM:

TRAIL BLAZER It’s everything the modern mountain biker could ask for. One of the lightest alloy trail wheels in the market, ROAM 50 delivers a smart balance of weight, inertia and stiffness—making for a very responsive and predictable wheel. Thanks to our WIDE ANGLE rim, its tire profile delivers superior traction."
