Synopsis
Jack Ryder was involved in cricket throughout his life, first as a player and then as an administrator. A hard-hitting batsman and medium-pace bowler, he captained Australia in the 1928-29 Test series against England after touring England with the Australian sides in 1921 and 1926. After his retirement as a player, Ryder became a selector for both Victorian and Australian teams. As a Test selector he had a close relationship with Sir Donald Bradman and this book includes letters from Bradman to Ryder. Bradman had great respect for Ryder, especially his judgement of a cricketer, as the book reveals. Among Ryder's feats was an innings of 295 for Victoria against New South Wales at the MCG, which helped swell Victoria's total to 1107. This remains the highest score by any team in the world in first-class cricket.
