3 x Paradigm Hill Mornington Peninsula L' ami Sage Pinot Noir 2009

Paradigm Hill is a small, family run, vineyard and winery on the Mornington Peninsula, in Victoria, Australia. Owners George and Ruth Mihaly share a passion and skill for viticulture and winemaking which is the glue that binds the art and science of making excellent wine.

The Mihalys are committed to using only estate grown grapes for on site production of pinot noir, shiraz, pinot gris and riesling. Their philosophy of wine making is to guide the wine with minimal intervention, through the vinification process.

The fruit is picked by loving hands, with vintage being a time for celebration.

Such a stonkingly good wine!

I could easily sit here in my sunny little home in Brunswick and pontificate about this wine but I shant. The Paradigm Hill Mornington Peninsula L’ami Sage Pinot Noir 2009 is such a good wine. Simple. So here is what I saw.

Great colour with virtually no translucency at all. Tight nose, so I decanted. After about 30 minutes the wine opened up to gorgeous tart red fruits of cranberry and brimming raspberry with brown spice’s the longer in the glass. Super clean acid held in check by the littlest of super fine tannins. Musk, tart red fruits again and just super gorgeous.

The wine I must say is at its peak three days later (I decanted about two glasses back into the bottle to see how it travelled). It is so Burgundy like, with descriptors I can’t give justice to. But I’ll have a stab anyway. Definite 5 spice aroma’s that meld deliciously into mushrooms, blackberry and more spice in the form of cinnamon. Mazel tov George and Ruth!

Paradigm Hill L'ami Sage Pinot Noir 2009
Region:VIC- Mornington Peninsula

Tasting Note:
Nick Stock 93 Points!
“A solid and convincing dark cherry-scented Mornington pinot that shows exactly why this region's making waves with its pinot noir wines. Spicy oak and meaty, earthy characters add youthful complexity. The palate's richly flavoured, with supple, swirling pinot tannins running long and true. Very youthful and assertive through the finish.”
Nick Stock, The Good Wine Guide 2011

3 x 2008 Clyde Park Vineyard ‘Reserve’ Pinot Noir

Trophy – Best Pinot Noir of Show(2008 vintage), Le Concurs de Vins 2009
2 Gold Medals (2008 vintage), Geelong Wine Show 2010 and Le Concurs de Vins 2009
94/100 points (2008 vintage)
“…the bouquet has ripe plum and black cherry aromas, which come through strongly on the palate; here the sweet fruit core has a crosscut of forest, stem, mint and spice…”
James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2011
93/100 points (2008 vintage)
“(…) Cherry, spice, a bit of funk and a mint. It’s light but assured, if not a little stern, with a powerful combination of acidity and length. There’s some stemmy flavour and texture in there along with an attractive dryness and minerality – like graphite or similar. Struck me at the time as having ‘echoes of Burgundy’ in both structure and flavour…”

3 x 2008 Frogmore Creek ‘Reserve’ Coal River Valley Pinot Noir

Frogmore Creek Wines is one of Tasmania's most awarded wineries. Proudly family owned, Frogmore Creek sources grapes from the finest cool climate regions in Tasmania. Frogmore Creek also produces Forty-Two Degrees South and the Storm Bay wines. Distributing exceptional quality wines from the finest Tasmanian regions across all states of Australia, South East Asia and America.
The limited production Evermore wines from Frogmore Creek are part of an unfinished project between our grapes and the winemakers. Every vintage we orchestrate several unconventional winemaking techniques from our microbatches of handpicked grapes, which each develop their own flavours, aromas and textures as they ferment and matue in barrel. These individual attributes layer together at blending, creating an immensely complex finished wine.
3 x 2008 Thistle Hill “Organic” Mudgee Pinot Noir

Thistle Hill Vineyard is an intimate, family-owned vineyard and winery nestled in the beautiful Erudgere valley just 10 kilometres from Mudgee. It owes its heritage to its original vigneron, David Robertson, a pioneer of organic viticulture and maker of elegant wines.

Thistle Hill has been classified as organic by NASAA (National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia) since 1993. The wines from Thistle Hill have a distinct style. The rich fruit flavours that spill from every bottle can be attributed to a combination of the warm climate, organic vineyard principles, basalt soils and unique winemaking.
